What to expect at your first Jaya Life menopause appointment

If you’re considering booking a menopause consultation, it’s completely normal to have questions.

  • Do I need blood tests first?

  • Should I wait until symptoms get worse?

  • What actually happens in the appointment?

At Jaya Life, your first consultation is designed to answer those questions, and more, in a way that is entirely centred around you.

A full hour, focused on you

Unlike standard GP appointments, your first consultation with Dr Lucy Mather lasts a full hour. This time is essential. Menopause and perimenopause are complex, and symptoms can affect everything from sleep and mood to cognition and long-term health. Prior to your appointment you will be sent a health form and symptom questionnaire to complete and send back for review.

This extended appointment allows space to:

  • Explore your symptoms in detail

  • Understand your medical history and lifestyle

  • Discuss your goals, concerns, and priorities

  • Build a personalised, evidence-based plan

  • Prescription (private) arranged if required

Specialist-led, evidence-based care

Dr Lucy Mather is a British Menopause Society registered specialist, meaning your care is guided by the latest clinical standards and best practice, in line with NHS guidance.

This is particularly important in menopause care, where misinformation and inconsistent advice are common.

Do you need blood tests first?

In most cases, no. For women over 45, menopause and perimenopause are usually diagnosed based on symptoms, not blood tests, in line with NHS and BMS guidance. If tests are needed, they can be arranged as part of your care.

So there’s no need to delay seeking support.

In person or online - what’s right for you?

You can choose between:

  • Face-to-face appointments in North Wales

  • Online consultations from the comfort of your home in England and Wales

Both options offer the same level of clinical expertise and time. However, many patients value the in-person experience, which allows for:

  • A more personal, reassuring environment

  • The opportunity for physical assessment if needed

  • A dedicated space to focus fully on your health

Online appointments, meanwhile, offer flexibility and accessibility, ideal if travel or time is a barrier.

A plan that looks ahead

This isn’t just about managing symptoms today. Your consultation will also consider your long-term health, including bone, heart, and cognitive health, ensuring you feel supported now and in the years ahead.

After every appointment you will receive a clinic letter (included in the cost of the clinic appointment), which also discusses the rationale for any treatment option, which you can share with your GP.

Built around you

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to menopause. Your care at Jaya Life is tailored, collaborative, and designed to help you feel like yourself again.

If you’ve been wondering whether to book, you don’t need to wait for things to get worse.
