Spring Clean Your Health: 4 Small Steps That Could Change Everything
There’s something about spring that makes us want to reset. We declutter cupboards. We open windows. We promise ourselves a “fresh start”. And yet, when it comes to our health? That often stays firmly at the bottom of the list.
At Jaya Life, we see it every day. Brilliant, capable women in their 40s, 50s and 60s, holding everything together for everyone else, while quietly postponing their own care.
So this Spring, we’re suggesting something different. Not a full life overhaul. Not a punishing health regime.
Just four small actions:
1. Book Your Smear Test
Cervical screening isn’t about looking for cancer - it’s about preventing it.
It detects early changes in cervical cells, allowing treatment before anything serious develops.
If you can’t remember when your last one was, you’re not alone. Check your NHS app or call your GP- it takes minutes.
Yes, it’s a bit uncomfortable. But it’s also one of the most effective preventative tests we have.

2. Check Your Breast Screening
Mammograms can detect breast cancer before symptoms appear.
If you’re over 50, you should be invited every three years.
Missed your appointment? You can always rebook. Find your local breast screening service here.
This is about catching things early, when treatment is simpler and outcomes are better.
More information can be found here.
3. Complete Your Bowel Screening (FIT Test)
This is the one no one talks about, and yet it’s incredibly powerful.
The FIT test is done at home and checks for hidden blood in your stool.
It’s quick, simple, and could detect bowel cancer early.
If it’s been sitting in a drawer, consider this your sign. Not sure if you’ve had one? Call the bowel cancer screening helpline on 0800 707 6060.
4. Have a Proper Health MOT
Screening tests look for specific conditions. But what about everything else?
Fatigue. Brain fog. Weight changes. Poor sleep. Low mood. These aren’t things you should just “put up with”.
A women’s health MOT looks at the bigger picture - your hormones, cardiovascular health, metabolism, and overall wellbeing.
It’s about understanding what’s happening in your body, and what you can do about it.
At Jaya Life, we take a proper, holistic look at your health - not just tick-box medicine. Find out more here.
The Bigger Picture
This isn’t really about four tests. It’s about something deeper. It’s about recognising that your health is not a luxury. It’s not something to get to “when things calm down”. It underpins everything else in your life.
So this spring, instead of just cleaning your house and your office…
Take care of the person in it.
